Kianna Underwood’s Father Speaks Out After Former Child Star Killed in Hit-and-Run
BROOKLYN, N.Y. Family and friends of Kianna Underwood, a former Nickelodeon child actress, are mourning her sudden death after she was struck and killed in a hit-and-run collision in Brooklyn early Friday morning, January 16, 2026. The 33-year-old, who appeared on All That and voiced a character on Little Bill as a child, was crossing a street in the Brownsville neighborhood when the tragedy occurred, law enforcement officials said.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), Underwood was first hit by a black Ford Explorer SUV while using a marked crosswalk around 6:45 a.m. local time. As she lay on the ground, she was then struck by a black and gray sedan, both drivers fleeing the scene without stopping. Underwood was pronounced dead at the location of the incident, and authorities are continuing their investigation with no arrests made so far.
In the wake of the heartbreaking news, Anthony Underwood, Kianna’s father, shared a deeply emotional message on social media, later deleted, in which he wrestled with the horror of his daughter’s final moments. Drawing on a painful memory, he wrote that seeing a hit animal once helped him understand the ordeal of compassion and care and then posed the haunting question that has stayed with him since his daughter’s death: “Did anyone try to comfort my baby as she lay dying in the street alone, or did they just stand around with their phones?”
Underwood’s career began at a young age. She appeared in seven episodes of Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy series All That in 2005, performing alongside future stars, and for years voiced Fuchsia Glover on the animated children’s show Little Bill. She also took part in the national tour of the musical Hairspray, building a varied resume of performances from childhood through her early adult years.
Tributes have poured in from fans who grew up watching her, remembering Underwood for her early work and the joy she brought to young audiences. Locals in the Brooklyn neighborhood where the accident occurred described her as having a “good spirit” and “happy energy,” with some recalling her frequent presence in the area.
The tragic incident has also reignited discussions about pedestrian safety in the city and the need for accountability in hit-and-run cases, as well as broader conversations about support systems for former child performers once they leave the limelight.
As the investigation continues, family and friends have asked for privacy and respect during this difficult time, honoring Underwood’s memory while seeking justice for the senseless loss of a life once full of promise.
